Each legislative body of the region's 27 member communities selects one representative to the Rutland Regional Planning Commission's Board of Commissioners. Each Commissioner has one vote and all 27 communities are voting members without qualification. In addition, the Commission also designates up to five areas representing area wide citizen interests and invites organizations representing those interests to send representatives to the Commission. Currently there are representatives for Natural Resources, Agriculture, Cultural Resources, and Housing and Low Income..

The Board of Commissioners holds monthly meetings on the third Tuesday evening of every month. Members of the public are invited to attend all meetings.
